ARTIST STATEMENT

Ksenia Malurika (b. 1993) is an interdisciplinary artist working across painting, performance, sound, and installation. Her practice unfolds where inner sensation meets the natural world — where emotion takes shape, becomes space, becomes image. Raised in Siberia and trained as a painter, she grew up listening to silence: forests, weather, the breath of wind. These presences remain with her. Nature, for Ksenia, is not background — it reflects fragility, transition, longing. Her work is a way of staying close to what cannot be held.

Painting is her first language. The series about oceans is not about water. It’s a study of rhythm, attention, memory. The Person Inside captures emotional tension at its most fleeting. She works intuitively, allowing color, texture, and silence to move equally. Since 2020, she has brought sound into her practice — field recordings, ambient structures, voice. Some of these pieces are made together with her husband, combining natural sounds, video, and a sense of time that breathes. Her musical background sharpens this sensitivity. What emerges are works you hear as much as see.

In recent years her language became more transparent. Gestures more spare, yet more urgent. A soft minimalism that carries weight. After rupture, there was clarity. Sincerity remains the center of her work — not as style, but as position. A quiet refusal to distance herself from feeling. Now based in Batumi, Georgia, she is part of the artist-run initiatives tmp_space and Particles, and co-founder of the now-closed Merapi house. Her focus remains: presence, as something sensed before it is understood.
